Why did you choose the X-Pyr?
To have a great adventure and to get to know a region that I only knew in part.
What is your greatest sporting success?
In terms of competition, I would say the respective Eigertour editions. Otherwise, the countless adventures that you can experience with the combination of paragliding.
When and why did you start paragliding?
I started paragliding in 2018. In the beginning, it was just a desire to shorten the descent while mountaineering without damaging my knees. Once I started paragliding, I have not let go of it to this day. I still have the same fascination as when I first started paragliding, and mountaineering is much more fun now.
What is your mountaineering experience?
Many 4000 metre peaks in the Alps and a few higher mountains in the Andes. Mostly with the paraglider (at least as additional weight in the backpack).
What are your best and worst sporting memories?
The best are certainly the countless sunset flights during training or cross-country flying.
Worst, an accident after take off which fortunately was not serious.
Have you flown in the Pyrenees before? Do you have a favourite area?
Yes, at the last X-Pyr as a supporter. I definitely prefer the sunny Spanish side.
Is there anything you like to see (or not) in the route?
I would prefer to do most of the route on the sunny Spanish side instead of the humid, cloudy French side, and of course I’m hoping for the best possible flying weather so that I don’t have to use my legs too much.
Apart from flying far and walking little, what will your strategy be during the race?
To have fun and experience an awesome adventure together with the team.
What does your typical training week consist of?
A typical training week includes long basic endurance training as well as short intensive and strength training sessions. In addition, of course, as many hours as possible in the air.
What has been the hardest part of your race preparation so far?
The thermals that have been missing in the last few months.
What excites you most about participating in the X-Pyr?
Being able to spend a week in the mountains and in the air with pilots with the same passion in the form of a competition.
What worries you the most about the event?
Too much and strong wind.
How do you know your assistant?
I know him as a supporter of a friend and myself at a Bordairrace and it all worked out perfectly.
What are your assistant’s main strengths?
Stay calmly organised and always spread a good mood.
