Why did you choose the X-Pyr again?
I love this race. It is a really tough adventure. Sometimes tougher than the X-Alps. I even think it should be mandatory to enter one X-Pyr to be able to register for the X-Alps because it gives you the perfect insight.
How was your race the last time?
Exhausting would be the appropriate word. Lot of walking/running at the beginning. Strong wind when flying. And in the middle of that, one incredible day of flying.
What did you learn during the last edition?
That somehow we always find a way to make it into goal.
What does your typical training week consist of?
Has your training regime changed since the last X-Pyr?
I needed some time off from real structured physical training during autumn & winter. Weeks were about a minimum of 6 hours to maximum 15 hours of endurance training. From March onwards, it will be more structured with my coach.
On the flying side, I try to fly each time it is good to fly. I’m preparing the XC season with big events before X-Pyr, like the Trofeo Montegrappa, World Cup in Switzerland, European Championship with the French team.
What changes have you made to your equipment for this edition?
Wing wise, the Zeolite 2 which is at the same time the lightest & most performing wing.
Harness, we are working on a more high-performance harness now with Neo & I will be excited to test it.
Apart from flying far and walking little, what will your strategy be during the race?
Enjoying! Sometimes I forget it a bit too much.
What excites you most about participating in the X-Pyr again?
Crossing from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean sea.
What worries you the most about the event?
Pais Basco/Basque Country, of course 😀
Is there anything you like to see (or not) in the route?
I really would be super happy not having to tag the bloody Pic du Midi! Really hate this mountain. Last two edition, each time a nightmare.
Do you have a favourite part of the Pyrenees?
Sure, Cerdagne!
How do you know your assistant?
Salome Baudoin, she is my girlfriend.
What are your assistant’s main strengths?
Smartest person on earth.
What advice would you give a rookie in this event?
Don’t lose hope in Euskal Herria/Basque Country 😆
Anything else you like to comment?
Thanks to all the organisation to make this event possible!
