2024: A New Strategy, a Historic Finish

Once again, the weather dictated the pace from the start, with a complicated forecast that threatened the early days of the race. However, 2024 brought a historic change: for the first time, the organization designed two versions of the route—the original and a “shortened” version to be used in case of severe weather conditions. On the day before the start, the decision was made to opt for the second option to ensure a viable race.

This edition saw interest reach an all-time high with a record 48 pre-registered teams. In the end, 40 teams made it to the starting line in Hondarribia, with 9 teams forced to retire before reaching the Mediterranean.

The final route spanned 487 km and featured 6 turnpoints strategically placed across the Pyrenees. The competition was intense and fast-paced. Simon Oberrauner claimed the victory, reaching the finish line on the fifth day. Following him in a brilliant final move was German pilot Christian Schugg, with the Australian Shane Tighe providing a fantastic surprise to round out the podium.

The 2024 edition will be remembered for its incredible success rate; shattering all previous records, 21 teams successfully reached the goal at the beach of El Port de la Selva—the highest number in X-Pyr history
